SC newbies FAQ These are Frequently Asked Questions
for Sub Command beginners 1. What is Sub Command? Sub Command (SC) is computer game, simulation of a nuclear submarine, game was developed by Sonalysts, and published by EA. For information about system requirements go to official SC web pages – follow the link in Links section on this site. 2. What is Sub-Culture? Sub-Culture (this site) is my private project, site for distributing my scenarios (missions) for Sub Command. Read more about it in the About section of this site. 3. Is SC game for me? SC is very very VERY hard, slow going and complex game. That said, it is also very much satisfying when you master some basic and advanced principles. If you do have interest in simulations in general, naval games and sims in particular, and lots of patience (prerequisite for every submariner, on computer or in real life) - then I suggest you to try it out. There is no demo for this game, but it is quite cheap nowadays, in online software stores, and elsewhere. 3. What patches do I need to install after installing the game? Go to Sonalysts website (Links section) and grab 1.05 patch (around 7,5 MB). Some websites have patch with version number 1.051, but it's neary 100% identical to 1.05, only difference being some copyright message within the game's opening movie. Games patched to 1.05 and/or 1.051 are identical for all the practical purposes. After you've done patching the game to version 1.05 or 1.051, go to Naval Warfare Simulations site (Links section) and download current version of SWP (so called) "mod" (as of this writing – current version is 1.0). Apply the SWP mod (or patch, or whatever you want to call it). That's it, you're ready to play. Download some scenarios from this site and let the fun begin ;o) All of my scenarios are written for SC patched to 1.05 AND with SWP mod installed. I do not recommend playing my scenarios with any other configuration. 4. How do I install your scenarios? My scenarios (or any other additional scenarios for that matter) are easy to install. Just put the scenario file in your /scenarios subfolder, within Sub Command main folder. Each of my scenarios have small TXT file where these ultra-simple instructions are basically repeated, so you can't get lost. 5. I love your scenarios! Great, thanks. Go tell it to other players on SubSim and NWS boards and forums (Links section), and write a mail to Sonalysts, praising my scenarios :o) 6. Your scenarios suck like there's no tomorrow... Well, thank you anyway. Go on then, play the canned scenarios that came with SC... 7. This game is HARD, and I mean HARD!! How do I learn d(r)iving a sub, not getting detected and torpedoed and how do I become master of all things underwater? Read the game manual. Twice. Then read it again. Play the tutorials. Play some of simpler and easier scenarios – I suggest Duel and We Dive At Dawn, by other scenario designers, search for them on SC fan sites (Links section). 8. After days of trying I still can't finish one of your scenarios. I don't want to "cheat" nor do I want to be told exactly what to do, but I'd like a hint or two. Send me a mail. BTW, take care to read RTF files with many additional information, that accompany most of my scenarios. They contain some "harmless" hints and tips for my scenarios. 9. You didn't reply to my mail – why? I receive bucketloads of mail every day. If I didn't reply
to you, that means I can't help you, don't know the answer to your question,
you didn't ask anything that would need replying etc. Sorry. All sorts of feedback are welcome. oleg@bug.hr. |
